Why To Have Photos Taken Of Yourself- Just For Fun!

So many people are under the impression that you need to have some sort of special occasion to warrant having photos taken of yourself - graduation, engagement, wedding, anniversary. And while these are very important situations that should be documented, I’m a firm believer that every stage of your life is important and should also be documented. I also believe that the confidence boost you get from getting bomb af photos taken of yourself is second to none.

Recently, I took my dear friend out to help me location scout for some upcoming sessions, but I was dying to get her in front of my camera again for some updated photos of herself. I walked her through picking out her outfit, hyping up every choice and encouraging her to pick whichever one made her feel most confident.See exhibit A of her response to receiving the photos:

Here are some other important reasons why you should have “Just Because” photos taken of yourself:

  1. Having photos taken of yourself can be a huge confidence boost. You have a dedicated hype woman telling you how amazing you look for a full hour and allowing you to truly express yourself.

  2. You get to see what you look like through someone else’s eyes. The mirror can be cruel and unkind, but your photographer is dedicated to making sure you look your absolute best at all times.

  3. You can learn how to pose your body in ways that you find flattering, which is helpful to decrease anxiety about future sessions. Your photographer will work with you and help you learn where to put your hands and the importance of not slouching your shoulders. When in doubt, boobies out- I always say this and it typically warrants a great laugh and beautiful posture :)

  4. You receive a gallery of photos that can be used tons of ways

    1. Gifts for loved ones (hello, Mother’s Day/Father’s Day/Christmas gifts for the rest of the year.

    2. Profile photos - LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Insta

    3. Work headshots

  5. Posting those photos online allows even MORE people to hype you up when they see how amazing you obviously feel about yourself

  6. It’s a genuinely fun experience that gives you a natural high for many days to come.

To prove my point even further, here’s some of the freaking stunning photos we got of Kaleigh during her session.
