Sarah // Downtown Cincinnati
Downtown Cincinnati Urban Portrait Session
For those of you who don’t know, I volunteer as a photographer for Women of Cincy- a nonprofit magazine in Cincinnati, OH that focuses on highlighting the amazing stories of women leaders in the city. It is such an amazing opportunity to be a part of this crazy cool group of women. Since college, I have been extremely passionate about the uplifting of women around me. Emerging into the workforce as a young adult woman, I was hit in the face (rather hard) about some of the prejudices and levels of oppression that women face, just because we have boobs. I won’t get onto that soapbox right now because it’s honestly very difficult to pull myself off of it, but I will say this. Women of Cincy is an absolutely beautiful, amazing organization and they are doing such amazing things to highlight these wonderful women who have laid the groundwork for monumental change in this city. Check them out, you will not regret it.
On one of my assignments, I got to meet Sarah, a writer for Women of Cincy. I got to learn a little about her over drinks (if you know me, you know this is my love language). We talked, laughed, shared some insecurities, challenges, and triumphs that we have faced. Talking with Sarah was like talking with an old friend. We almost missed out on golden hour because we were so engrossed in the conversation. Don’t worry though- my photographer senses started tingling and I made sure to start the ball rolling on snapping photos. Sarah confessed to me that she was a little shy in front of the camera. I could definitely tell it was a little bit uncomfortable for her at first, but it was the most beautiful experience getting to literally watch her confidence grow before my eyes.
As I mentioned before, empowering women is so important to me. Empowering anyone, really, is important to me. But women specifically because I really resonate with the insecurities and challenges that we face every day. Being a portrait photographer is so special because it gives me the opportunity to do just that. I love being able to take photos of people that they see and think “woah, that’s how the world sees me?” YES HONEY IT IS AND YOU ARE AMAZING. Take a look at some of my favorites from Sarah’s session- she killed the entire game for real. I’m so honored to have met her and I’m hopeful that we will get to work together again in the future. If you are at all on the fence about getting photos taken of yourself- hit a girl up. I would love to talk with you, work with you, and find out a way to boost your confidence because you hecking deserve it.
